On 8th August 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta arrived in Barbados for a three-day state visit, marking the second leg of his Caribbean tour.
During the visit, President Kenyatta expressed the need for Kenya and Barbados to scale up their bilateral engagement for mutual benefit. He noted that the two countries share similarities, including being English-speaking nations with populations of African heritage.
President Kenyatta was accorded full state welcoming honours, including a 21-gun salute, upon his arrival in Barbados. He was received by Prime Minister Mia Mottley and First Lady Margaret Kenyatta at the Grantley Adams International Airport in Bridgetown.
The President will lead the Kenyan delegation at bilateral talks with Prime Minister Mottley and her delegation, which will culminate in the signing of bilateral agreements to bolster cooperation between Kenya and Barbados.
President Kenyatta's visit to Barbados is a testament to the friendly relations between Kenya and Barbados, and demonstrates the importance the two countries attach to their relationship.
