Kisumu County ODM delegates were in attendance at the party's annual conference, where leadership wrangles dominated the proceedings.

Leaders from both the county Assembly and the Executive, led by Governor Anyang Nyong'o, were in disagreement over the 2019-20 financial year budget, with the Assembly rejecting it due to non-compliance with requirements.

The stalemate has left the county financially strapped, with the MCAs in the process of impeaching Finance Executive Nerry Achar, accusing him of misconduct and blaming him for dwindling revenues.

Deputy Governor Mathews Owili called for a truce, urging leaders to look at the bigger picture and unite for the sake of development projects, including the planned extension of the Standard Gauge Railway from Naivasha to Kisumu and the hosting of the 2021 Africities Conference.

ODM Executive Director Oduor Ong'wen emphasized the importance of the county government succeeding, with MCAs having the responsibility of supporting the executive, while Kisumu Assembly Speaker Onyango Oloo defended the Assembly's oversight role, stating that differing opinions do not mean enmity.
