On July 31, 2019, a dramatic incident unfolded in Nairobi, leaving a former Member of Parliament with injuries to his face.
Gatundu North MP Clement Kungu Waibara has accused a traffic police officer of allegedly assaulting him, slapping the MP and causing damage to his cheek.
According to a police report, the incident occurred as Mr. Waibara, his wife Winnie Wairimu Mburu, and two other passengers were driving towards Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).
At around 7:30 pm, they reached T-Mall, and the former legislator got off the car to ask a traffic officer about the shortest route to KNH.
“Instead the traffic officer manning the roundabout started violently pushing and slapped him (Mr. Waibara) twice on the face injuring his left eye and cheek,” the report added.
The ex-Member of Parliament was rescued by another traffic officer and taken for a medical checkup before being referred to make a formal assault complaint.
