On Thursday, August 8, 2019, Hillary Barchok, a seasoned educationist and curriculum development specialist, took the oath of office as the third governor of Bomet County.
Assuming the office after the death of late governor Joyce Laboso on July 29, Barchok's swearing-in ceremony was held at the Bomet Green Stadium in a colorful public event.
As a specialist in curriculum development and a former university lecturer, Barchok's leap into politics began in 2017 when he agreed to be Laboso's running mate in the gubernatorial contest.
He later served as a board member of the Retirement and Benefits Authority from 2018.
According to the Kenyan constitution, if a vacancy occurs in the office of county governor, the deputy county governor assumes the office for the remainder of the term.
