On August 8, 2019, Lukoye Atwoli, the dean of Moi University's School of Medicine, handed in a resignation notice, effective immediately.
Atwoli cited frustration from his colleagues and the university's management as the main reason for his resignation.
He expressed his gratitude to his colleagues and wished them well, stating that he would find other ways to contribute to the community.
Atwoli also asked those he may have wronged during his five-year tenure as dean to forgive him.
When contacted about the authenticity of the letter, Atwoli confirmed that he was indeed resigning and had issued a notice for early retirement.
He stated, 'I have today (Thursday, August 8) handed in letters giving notice of my early retirement effective immediately.'
