On August 8, 2019, Martha Karua, leader of Narc-Kenya, revealed that President Kenyatta offered her a Cabinet post in 2017, following his re-election.
According to Karua, President Kenyatta had promised to appoint the candidate who lost in the Kirinyaga gubernatorial contest between Karua and Anne Waiguru to a government position.
Although Karua lost the election, garnering 41% of the votes, President Kenyatta fulfilled his pledge by offering her a Cabinet post, which she declined.
However, Karua noted that some promises made to her party, Narc-Kenya, remained unfulfilled.
"Maybe I should now disclose that I rejected an offer for a cabinet post in 2017 after the elections. To that extent, the promise was fulfilled to me but promises to Narc-Kenya remain unfulfilled," Karua tweeted.
