On August 8, 2019, lawyers in Sudan filed legal proceedings to investigate the disappearance of 11 people during the deadly crackdown on a protest in June.
The Sudanese Professionals Association, an umbrella group of trade unions, organized a press conference to discuss the matter.
Lawyer Shawki Yacoub stated that the number of documented missing people from the sit-in stands at 11, with the possibility of many more being missing due to the bloody crackdown outside Khartoum's army headquarters.
The crackdown on the June 3 sit-in drew widespread condemnation and accounted for around half of all reported deaths in the protests that have rocked Sudan since December.
Despite the crackdown, Sudan's ruling generals signed a deal with protest leaders on Sunday providing the broad outlines of a three-year transition to civilian rule.
