On Wednesday, Brian Bera, a 25-year-old Mechanical Engineering student from JKUAT, attempted to enter State House in Nairobi. The incident led to Bera being shot and later appearing in court.
During the court hearing, Bera made some astonishing statements. He claimed that he was a grown-up and wanted to be left alone by his father, who he alleged was interfering with his life.
Bera also stated that he did not want to attend a mental facility, citing that he could 'kill' the doctors and police officers there. He pleaded with the court to forgive him and release him.
However, Magistrate Andayi disagreed with Bera's plea. The magistrate directed that Bera be held at a mental facility under his father's care, citing that the student still required medical attention.
Magistrate Andayi stated, 'The accused still requires medical attention and therefore he is still not fit to take a plea.'
Bera will now undergo medication for two months and will return to court on October 9, 2019.
