On August 8, 2019, Martha Karua, leader of Narc-Kenya party, revealed that President Kenyatta offered her a Cabinet post in 2017 after the general elections.
According to Karua, President Kenyatta fulfilled a campaign promise made during the 2017 elections, where he pledged to appoint the candidate who lost in the Kirinyaga gubernatorial contest between Karua and Anne Waiguru to a government position.
Although Karua rejected the offer, she acknowledged that the promise was fulfilled to her, but some unnamed promises made to her Narc-Kenya party remained unfulfilled.
"Maybe I should now disclose that I rejected an offer for a cabinet post in 2017 after the elections. To that extent, the promise was fulfilled to me but promises to Narc-Kenya remain unfulfilled," Karua tweeted.
Waiguru won the Kirinyaga gubernatorial race with 153,353 votes (53 percent) ahead of Karua, who garnered 116,626 votes (41 percent).
