Published on August 8, 2019, the Malkia Strikers, Kenya's national women's volleyball team, have a chance to avenge their 3-2 African Nations Championship final defeat to Cameroon.
The teams will face each other in the African Games, scheduled for August 19-31 in Morocco, after being drawn in the same group B.
Kenya, who won the last African Games title in 2015 in Congo Brazzaville, lost to Cameroon in a second successive continental final match in Cairo last month.
The team, trained by Shailen Ramdoo, returned to the country in batches on Tuesday after a disappointing outing at the Intercontinental Olympics qualifiers in Italy.
Kenya will also face Senegal and Algeria in the preliminary round, which has been dubbed the 'Group of death'. Group A comprises hosts Morocco, Botswana, Mauritius, and Nigeria.
Assistant coach Japheth Munala expressed confidence in Kenya's chances, saying, 'Though we are in a tricky group, I think being with Cameroon in the same group is a blessing in disguise to us. We have the advantage of testing ourselves in the group stages rather than in the knockout.'
Kenya aims to retain the title in Morocco, with Munala adding, 'We have four days or so to prepare for this tournament. Italy was a good training ground for us.'
