On August 7, 2019, 16-year-old golfer Taimur Malik made history by winning the 2019 Junior Strokes play overall title at the par 71 Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi.
Malik, a handicap one golfer, produced 294 gross to beat a team of 66 juniors. His journey to victory was not without its challenges, as he made a false start in Day One on Monday with an eight over par 79 gross.
However, Malik recovered well, producing a three over par 74 gross in the second round and two over par 73 gross on Tuesday. He then sealed his victory with an excellent three under par 68 gross.
Malik attributed his win to the lessons he learned during the event, saying, "It has been a tough event especially in the first day but learned some lessons and I am happy to win."
His club mate Mutahi Kibugu became the gross winner with 297 gross (78,72,73,74), while Zubair Khan settled for runner up with 301 gross (76-72-74,79).
Jaimee Gachaga, a Dubai-based Kenyan lady junior golfer, won the girls' overall title with 372 gross after posting 99, 91, 91, and 90 gross.
