On August 7, 2019, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria proposed a retreat for Mt Kenya region leaders to discuss the succession plan ahead of 2022.

Speaking in Kigumo constituency, Mr Kuria emphasized the need for communities in the region to reflect on their political journey since 1992, so they can plan ahead.

“Our leaders should shape regional politics early so as to help them prepare a bargain agreement ahead of 2022,” said Kuria.

He also urged Mt Kenya communities to shun leaders who have failed to initiate development projects but have instead concentrated on playing politics.

Commenting on the proposed parliamentary system of government, Kuria expressed concerns that such a system cannot work until all constituencies are equally populated.

“The parliamentary system is unacceptable. Let constituencies first have even populations," said Kuria.
