On August 8, 2019, Kenya Trade Network Agency (KenTrade) and the Global Alliance for Trade signed a partnership agreement to implement risk-based pre-arrival processing in the Single Window System, aiming to reduce trade barriers and fast-track cargo clearance at Kenyan border points.
According to KenTrade Chief Executive Amos Wangora, the partnership aims to increase predictability and reduce costs for traders by implementing risk-based pre-arrival processing. This will enable customs and border agencies to improve risk assessment by focusing on high-risk shipments and expending less effort on low-risk shipments.
"Implementation of this is in line with World Trade Organisation’s Trade Facilitation Agreement, in particular, Article 7.1 which places emphasis on pre-arrival processing," Wangora said in Nairobi recently.
With this partnership, traders can now clear their goods much faster at all Kenyan border points, reducing trade barriers and improving the overall trade experience.
