On July 29, a British Airways flight from Memphis landed at Heathrow Airport, bringing back Danish golf star Thorbjorn Olesen from the St Jude Invitational.
However, the 29-year-old's return was marred by allegations of sexual assault, being drunk on an aircraft, and common assault. He was subsequently arrested by police and released under investigation.
On August 1, Olesen was charged by postal requisition with the three offenses. He is due to appear in court at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court on August 21.
The European Tour has suspended Olesen pending the outcome of the legal proceedings. In a statement, a European Tour spokesperson said, "Thorbjorn Olesen has been suspended from the European Tour pending the outcome of legal proceedings."
When contacted for comment, Olesen's lawyer, Paul Morris, released a statement saying, "Thorbjorn has cooperated fully with the police during their investigation, but while the legal proceedings are still ongoing he unfortunately cannot comment on this matter at this time."
