On August 7, 2019, Ekuru Aukot's Punguza Mizingo Bill faced opposition from some members of the Pokot West County Assembly.
Initially, the Third Way Alliance team had planned to present the bill to the assembly members, who were expected to support it.
However, the team was met with hostility and denied a chance to speak to the assembly members, who were not receptive to the bill.
Only four members of the assembly voted in favor of the bill, while 29 others rejected it, effectively killing the motion.
Some assembly members alleged that Aukot had a hidden agenda to undermine the bill, which aimed to ensure women's representation in leadership positions in areas like Pokot West.
Aukot was forced to adjourn the meeting and head to the Makutano area, where he addressed the locals.
Catherine Mukenyang, the Speaker of the County Assembly, stated that a large number of assembly members rejected the bill due to a court order that prohibited Aukot from presenting the bill in the county assemblies.
