On August 7, 2019, residents of Kiabunda village in Kinangop, Nyandarua County, intervened to rescue two girls aged 11 and 14 who were allegedly being exploited for sex by their mothers.

The two women reportedly forced their daughters to sleep with a man in exchange for Ksh.1,000 each, with one of the girls living with a disability.

Following a tip-off from a local resident, the community stormed one of the women's houses and apprehended the man who had been defiling the girls.

The man was detained at Njabini Police Station pending further investigation, while the women remained at large as no one had recorded a statement against them, according to area police boss Jane Munywoki.
