On August 7, 2019, US President Donald Trump called on the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates 'bigger and faster' to make the US competitive against other countries.

Trump made the comments in a series of Twitter posts, stating that the Federal Reserve must 'Cut Rates bigger and faster, and stop their ridiculous quantitative tightening NOW.'

Trump has been a vocal critic of the Federal Reserve, calling on the central bank to lower interest rates to support the US economy. His surprise move to impose new tariffs on Chinese imports has added pressure on the Fed to cut rates.

White House trade adviser Peter Navarro has also urged the Fed to cut key rates by another three-quarters of a point to a full point by the end of the year.
