On August 12th, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) will begin questioning 41 Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) from Siaya County over their alleged involvement in a Sh. 200,000 per person scam related to a non-existent trip to Uganda.
According to the commission's Western region boss, Ignatius Wekesa, the MCAs will appear before the EACC from August 12th to 27th, with the Speaker, George Okode, expected to be the last one to appear.
The MCAs are expected to present their travel documents, which they allegedly used during the trip to Uganda, despite the trip never taking place.
A lobby group, Siaya County Accountability Network (SCAN), has also written to the EACC to investigate eight issues, including the alleged advance payment to non-existent trip and the recruitment of over 50 interns who were put on payroll despite not being involved in administrative and legislative roles.
