On August 7, 2019, Gor Mahia, the Kenyan Premier League defending champions, announced the appointment of Steven Pollack as their new coach, replacing Hassan Oktay who resigned just a day prior.
Pollack, a 58-year-old Finnish-English tactician, has a wealth of experience in coaching clubs in Europe and West Africa, including FC Inter Turku in Finland and Berekum Chelsea FC in Ghana.
He is best remembered for guiding Berekum to the domestic cup title when they won the Ghana President Cup in the 2016/17 season.
According to Gor Mahia club chairman Ambrose Rachier, Pollack had been on K'Ogalo's radar even before Oktay came on board, and was among the 50 candidates who applied for the head coach position last year.
Pollack will lead Gor Mahia in their CAF assignment this weekend against the Black Eagles in Bujumbura, Burundi, before hosting them next week at Kasarani.
With the new season just around the corner, Gor fans will be hoping that Pollack leads them to a fourth competitive KPL title, despite the intense competition in the top tier.
