Facebook has removed the 'Nairobi Crime Free' page operated by Hessy Wa Dandora, a figure accused of using social media to publicize extrajudicial killings of suspected gang members in Nairobi.
The page, which gained notoriety for sharing graphic images of dead individuals, was taken down days after a BBC report highlighted concerns about organized violence in Kenya's capital. The investigation alleged the existence of a death squad within the police force targeting young men in impoverished areas.
Dandora, who previously claimed responsibility for shootings of suspected criminals, stated in social media posts that he acted out of personal conviction. 'No one has ever refunded me all this money and no one will ever do it,' he wrote, denying financial compensation for his activities.
Former police chief Joseph Boinnet denied any connection to Dandora, stating the individual behind the accounts was a civilian with 'passion for security matters.' The statement came as authorities faced mounting pressure to address allegations of state-linked vigilante violence.
