Apple Inc has announced a change to its mobile operating system that will restrict a feature used by Facebook's Messenger and WhatsApp to make voice calls over the internet, as reported by The Information on August 6, 2019.
The feature, which allows the apps to run in the background and connect calls faster while performing other tasks, will no longer be accessible in the background, according to the report.
Apple's move will force Facebook to redesign its messaging apps, which may have a significant impact on WhatsApp, particularly in its implementation of end-to-end encryption.
