On August 7, 2019, Tottenham star Victor Wanyama filed a case at the Milimani Law courts in Kenya, seeking compensation for copyright infringement.
According to reports, Menengai Oil Refineries Limited had used Wanyama's image, along with those of Michael Olunga and Ovella Ochieng, in a tweet ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Menengai Oil Refineries tweeted, 'If you believe it, you can do it, we at the Menengai would like to wish our boys all the best in the Africa Cup of Nations.'
However, Wanyama argues that the post was captured without his consent, and therefore infringed his personality and image rights.
He further claims that the information was never tailored to wish the Harambee Stars good luck at the continental tournament, but to promote the company's products.
