Gor Mahia will unveil Steven Pollack, a seasoned English-Finnish tactician, as their new head coach on Friday.
According to club chairman Ambrose Rachier, Pollack was among the 50 candidates who applied for the head coach position last year after Briton Dylan Kerr resigned. Although he came third in the interviews, Rachier has now confirmed that Pollack will take over the reins.
Meanwhile, Rachier has accepted the resignation of former coach Hassan Oktay, who led the club for one season. Oktay had requested five days off to attend to personal matters in Turkey but opted to resign citing personal challenges.
“Yesterday we received an official resignation letter from Hassan Oktay, because of family issues which he had asked the club for permission to solve them,” Rachier said.
Pollack, a 58-year-old former head coach of Ghanaian club Asante Kotoko, has coached several clubs in Europe and West Africa, including FC Inter Turku in Finland and Berekum Chelsea FC in Ghana. He is best remembered for guiding Berekum to the domestic cup title in the 2016/17 season.
The new coach will lead Gor Mahia in their CAF assignment this weekend against the Black Eagles in Bujumbura, Burundi, before hosting them next week at Kasarani.
