Meet Musa Shikuku Maganga, a self-taught mechanic from Mombasa County who has achieved the unthinkable by building a hand-built car from scratch.
Maganga's two-seater car, which has two car tyres at the front and a motorcycle tyre at the back, has been making waves in Nairobi, with crowds gathering around him wherever he stops.
According to Maganga, he started this peace campaign after the 2007 post-election violence, but he wasn't as successful as he wanted to be due to financial setbacks. He decided to build this car because it would attract the masses and give him the opportunity to talk to them and spread his message of peace.
It took Maganga a full year to finish the vehicle, which he began building in 2016 and completed in June 2017. He started his tour around the country in July 2017, and the vehicle cost him over Sh 240,000.
Maganga, who only studied mechanics for a year, says his expertise in mechanics is God-given, and he did not acquire most of his skills from school. He is planning to make another car, a modern one, which he says will be unique from the cars we know.
Maganga's ambitions don't stop there. He is planning to build a helicopter and a robot, with the robot being the first from a Kenyan and probably an African. He is already working on his helicopter and has built a skeleton structure of what would later become an airplane.
