Renowned Aids Researcher and University of Nairobi Lecturer Sobbie Mulindi Succumbs to Cancer ¶
August 6, 2019, marked a sad day for Kenya as Sobbie Mulindi, a top Aids researcher and University of Nairobi lecturer, succumbed to cancer at the age of 70.
Mulindi had been battling cancer since 2017, and his death has left a void in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Kenya.
During his tenure as deputy director of the National Aids Control Council from 2008 to 2014, Mulindi played a crucial role in reducing the HIV prevalence rate from a high of about 30% in the early 2000s.
He was also a senior lecturer in the psychiatry department at the University of Nairobi and led campaigns and sensitized the youths about HIV/AIDS.
Mulindi's contributions to the fight against HIV/AIDS will not be forgotten, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations of researchers and healthcare professionals.
Among those who mourned Mulindi's passing was Amani National Congress party leader Musalia Mudavadi, who said, "Tessie and I send our sincere condolences to the family, friends, and relatives of Dr. Sobby Mulindi, Chairman, Nairobi Hospice. Indeed he put life into the days of the hospice fraternity and not just days into their lives."
