On Tuesday evening, a devastating road crash occurred along the Kenol-Murang'a road in Murang'a, Kenya, claiming the lives of four people.
The victims, who were traveling in a private car, died instantly after their vehicle veered off the road and plunged into the Ithe Rui River.
According to Murang'a County Police Commander Josphat Kinyua, preliminary investigations suggest that the vehicle was traveling at a high speed, which led to the driver losing control.
Commander Kinyua further stated that the bodies of the four victims were taken to the Maragua Hospital mortuary.
He also urged motorists to exercise caution while driving through the area, which he described as a 'black spot' due to the high number of fatal accidents that have occurred there.
Commander Kinyua's warning comes after a similar incident two months ago, in which an assistant chief and a child lost their lives in a road crash at the same spot.
Additionally, in 2011, a family of seven died after their car plunged into the river at the same location.
Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia has announced plans to dual the road, but this will only happen after the completion of the dual carriage highway on the Kenol-Nyeri-Isiolo road.
