On August 7, 2019, a woman's day took an unexpected turn as she gave birth to a baby boy in an Uber taxi while headed to Nairobi West Hospital.

According to her colleague, the woman, who works for a micro-finance institution in the city centre, had been experiencing stomach pains at the office.

She quickly hailed a taxi, but her labour intensified while on the way to the hospital.

The taxi driver, Nelson Munene, stopped outside Nation Centre on Kimathi Street to allow for a safe delivery.

Women who arrived at the scene used their shawls to block the windows as the woman gave birth inside the car.

Medics from Meridian Hospital, located in Nation Centre, rushed out to assist the mother and child.
