On August 6, 2019, a tanker accident caused significant disruptions on Mombasa Road, prompting the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) to issue a traffic advisory.

According to the alert, motorists approaching the section near the Syokimau SGR terminus, just past Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), should exercise caution.

KeNHA tweeted, "We would like to issue a traffic advisory to all motorists plying along the Nairobi - Mombasa highway (A8) to exercise caution as they approach the section near the SGR terminus entrance after JKIA."

The accident resulted in heavy traffic along Mombasa Road for several hours, causing inconvenience to commuters.
