Gor Mahia Coach Hassan Oktay Steps Down After One Season

Published on August 7, 2019, Gor Mahia coach Hassan Oktay has officially stepped down after serving the club for one season.

His departure comes after a short leave, but he failed to return to continue his duties.

As the head coach of the Kenyan Premier League champions, Gor Mahia, Oktay led the team to win their 18th league title last season.

However, the club has now announced that Englishman Steven Polack will take over as the new head coach, with Polack set to arrive in the country on August 7.

Polack has had a successful career as a manager in Africa, working with teams such as Ghana's Berekum Chelsea and Asante Kotoko.

He has also managed several clubs in Finland, including RoPS and FC Inter Turku.

Polack will take charge of the team ahead of their next match on August 11.

"The club has decided to appoint Steven Polack as the new head coach, as the upcoming season is a big challenge. We have a match on Sunday, August 11, and the team needs to prepare for the new season," a statement from the club read.

Polack's appointment comes after Oktay's resignation, which was announced on August 6, 2019.

"Please accept my resignation as the head coach of Gor Mahia FC, effective today, August 6, 2019. The challenges I am facing, coupled with the European schedule, have forced me to make this decision," Oktay said in a statement.

"I would like to thank the club, the players, and the fans for the opportunity to lead this great team. I wish the team all the best in the upcoming season," he added.
