On August 7, 2019, the Left Foot Sports “World Cup” tournament was set to kick off at the Railway Club in Nairobi, with defending champions Diamond Trust Bank among the over 36 teams in action.
Having won the title the previous year by defeating Tradewinds Aviation Services, Diamond Trust Bank will be fielding two teams in the tournament, which starts at 8.30am on Sunday.
Joining Diamond Trust Bank in the tournament are Nation Media Group, which will enter three teams - two in the men’s competition and one in the women’s tournament.
The Nation Media Group teams will also be carrying the StarTimes and St Mary’s School banners, following the two organisations’ recent partnership with Nation Media Group in sports and wellness programmes.
Tournament organiser Aman Bhasin of Left Foot Sports Limited expressed optimism about the tournament, saying that he expected more entries by Friday’s deadline.
“With six days to go, we have over 36 teams registered so far in the men’s category and we expect entries in the women’s and under-17 categories,” Bhasin said on Tuesday.
He added that the tournament would be a day of soccer, fun, and music, with food stalls available, and that the entry fee was Sh4,000 per team.
