Published on August 7, 2019, Gor Mahia, Kenya's representatives in the Caf Champions League, are set to face Burundian champions Aigle Noir in their campaign opener.
Assistant coach Patrick Odhiambo expressed confidence in the team's preparation ahead of the match, citing improvements in individual players and a high team morale.
"We are in good shape ahead of the match and I have seen a lot of improvement in individual players and progress as a unit. The morale in the team is also very high and we want to start on a positive note by winning away," Odhiambo said after Tuesday's training session at the Camp Toyoyo in Nairobi.
However, Ivorian striker Gislen Yikpe Gnamian and midfielder Kenneth Muguna trained separately during the session, but Odhiambo assured that they will be part of the squad that leaves for Burundi on Friday.
Experienced forward Dennis Oliech missed the training session, but Odhiambo stated that he is still in the team's plans for the season.
The team is currently under the care of assistant coach Patrick Odhiambo, following coach Hassan Oktay's resignation on Tuesday evening. Odhiambo has expressed his readiness to take on the challenge, stating that he is a winner and loves football.
Despite Odhiambo's optimism, reliable sources indicate that the club has identified Englishman Steven Pollack as Oktay's replacement, who is expected to arrive in the country by Thursday to sign a contract.
