On August 7, 2019, Ivy Wangeci's father, Paul Gichungu Wainaina, spoke out against malicious rumors surrounding his daughter's brutal murder.

Wainaina refuted claims that Ivy was a 'slay queen', a term loosely translated to mean a young woman exchanging sex for material things and monetary favors. He emphasized that Ivy was brought up in a staunch Christian family and was a hardworking girl.

He also denied claims that Ivy had infected her killer, Naphtali Kinuthia, with HIV/AIDS, stating that tests had already been done to prove this untrue.

Wainaina further clarified that Ivy was a decent and honest person, and that the stories being circulated about her were a form of her second killing.

He also addressed claims that Kinuthia had bought Ivy a car, which she was using to commute in school, stating that these were lies and that Ivy would never accept such a thing from a man.

Ivy's body was transferred from Eldoret to Nairobi on Thursday and her remains are at Kenyatta University Funeral Home. She will be buried on Thursday at Kirai Village in Mahiga Othaya.
