On August 6, 2019, police in Narok County apprehended a man who claimed to have new KSh 1000 notes.
The suspect was later taken to Enosaen Police Station for further investigation before being arraigned in court.
According to Philip Kortom, the chief of the area, the suspect was caught by the neighbors of the M-Pesa agent after they discovered the fake notes.
It is reported that the suspect had attempted to deceive the M-Pesa agent in Oldanyati location.
Notably, this is not the first incident of fake notes in Kenya. In July 2019, suspects in Nairobi were found with fake notes worth KSh 1 billion.
Additionally, in Embu County, three suspects were arrested with fake notes worth KSh 100,000 in June 2019.
