Ugandan musician and politician Bobi Wine has been charged with intent to threaten President Yoweri Museveni, a new charge stemming from an August 2018 incident in which he was accused of leading protests against Museveni and calling for the president to be stoned.
Published on August 6, 2019, the charge comes after Wine was previously charged in August 2018 for leading protests against Museveni and calling for the president's motorcade to be stoned.
Wine, a member of parliament for Kyadondo East, was charged on August 23, 2018, in a military court following several days of detention and torture.
Despite the government's crackdown and the torture he endured, Wine has continued to criticize the Museveni government.
He has also announced his intention to run for president in the 2021 general election, challenging Museveni's rule.
