Gor Mahia Appoints Steven Polack as New Coach ¶
Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia have appointed Englishman Steven Polack as their new head coach, following the resignation of Hassan Oktay.
Polack, who has had successful managerial spells with African teams, including Ghanaian outfits Berekum Chelsea and Asante Kotoko, is set to arrive in the country on Wednesday, August 7.
According to sources, the club has decided to settle swiftly on Polack as the task ahead is huge, with a match scheduled for Sunday, August 11.
Polack has also coached a number of clubs in Finland, including RoPS and FC Inter Turku.
Oktay, a Cypriot, resigned from his position as Gor Mahia coach after just one season, citing personal challenges he was facing in Europe.
He led the club to their 18th league title last season, but failed to turn up for duty when his compassionate leave lapsed.
"Kindly accept my resignation as Gor Mahia FC head coach effective today, the sixth day of August 2019. As you are aware, the decision has been forced on me by the personal challenges I am facing here in Europe," Oktay said in his resignation.
"I wish to thank you and the entire club, including the fans for the opportunity you accorded me to manage this great club. I also wish you guys all the best in your forthcoming assignments," he added.
