On August 6, 2019, Gor Mahia announced the resignation of their head coach, Hassan Oktay, who had been at the helm since December 2018.
Oktay, 46, had initially asked for six days off to attend to his ailing parents and other family matters in Turkey, but ultimately decided to resign from his position, effective immediately.
In a letter to the club's chairman, Ambrose Rachier, Oktay expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to manage the team and wished the club and its fans all the best in their future endeavors.
Assistant coach Patrick Odhiambo is set to take charge on an interim basis, as the team prepares to kickoff the CAF Champions League 2019/2020 season against Burundi's Aigle Noir on Sunday.
During his tenure, Oktay led the team to their first-ever quarter-finals of the Caf Confederation Cup and clinched the unprecedented 18th KPL title in his first season.
