On August 6, 2019, Gor Mahia FC announced the resignation of their head coach, Hassan Oktay, a Turkish tactician who had been leading the team since then.
According to the club's chairman, Ambrose Rachier, Coach Oktay had requested eight days off to attend to his family matters, citing personal challenges he was facing in Europe, including his father's ailing condition.
During his absence, Assistant Coach Patrick took full charge of the team, preparing them for upcoming assignments, including CAF preparation.
However, upon his departure, it was discovered that Coach Oktay had left the country with his belongings, sparking concerns that he may not return to the club.
Coach Oktay expressed his gratitude to the club and its fans in a letter, wishing them the best in their future assignments.
The club has accepted his wish to terminate his contract and thanked him for his services, also praying for his situation to improve.
Former Asante Kotoko and Berekum Chelsea tactician Stephen Pollack is expected to take over as the new coach of Gor Mahia FC.
