On August 4, 2019, parents delivered their sons to Musingu Boys School for a soccer talent camp, but to their surprise, they received a call informing them that their sons had been eliminated.
According to Joseph Barasa, one of the parents, the senior master, Geoffrey Shisia, called him to inform that his son was eliminated and had been asked to leave the compound.
Barasa pleaded with Shisia to keep the boy so that he could pick him up, but the teacher disconnected the phone.
Barasa later learned that the exercise was a scam, as players were not being selected on merit but by bribing parents who wanted their sons to join the school.
He urged Education CS Magoha to order an investigation into the whole exercise.
The school had advertised the camp as free of charge, with food and accommodation provided for the entire period.
However, the trainers required the trainees to carry boots, training kits, a blanket, a bedsheet, copies of birth certificates, copies of KCPE certificates, and report cards from their current school.
