According to reports, the man's friends, who he had bet against, gang-raped his wife while he watched. The victim later approached a court, and the police initially refused to file her complaint but eventually processed it.
After the incident, the victim went to a relative's house, where her husband followed her in his car and apologized. She agreed to return home with him, but on the way back, he stopped the car and allowed the pair to rape her again.
Uttar Pradesh, India's most populous state, has become notorious for violent crime, and this incident is a stark reminder of the impunity with which such crimes are committed.
