Martha Karua, leader of the Narc-Kenya party, has expressed disappointment with the Kenyan judicial system following the dismissal of her petition challenging the election of Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru by the Supreme Court on August 6, 2019.
Supreme Court Justice Isaac Lenaola threw out the case, directing that each party bear the costs of the proceedings. Karua's petition had been dismissed by the Appellate Court, which ruled that she failed to prove her case beyond reasonable doubt on claims of bribery in the 2017 gubernatorial election.
Responding to the ruling, Karua took to Twitter, saying, “I did not get justice at the court but Aluta continua. The journey to success is long and wi(n)ding.” She also thanked those who stood with her in her judicial marathon, as well as her lawyers Gitobu Imanyara and C.N Kihara, saying “their zeal and professionalism remain unmatched!”
Waiguru, addressing the press after the ruling, urged Karua to accept the results and move on, suggesting that she wait until 2022 to contest again if she remains unsatisfied with the verdict.
