Microsoft has confirmed the appointment of Jack Ngare as the new Managing Director for its Africa Development Centre (ADC), effective immediately.
Ngare, who was previously the Managing Director of Finserve Africa, a digital finance subsidiary of Equity Group, has over 10 years of experience in the tech industry.
"We've been adding to our team of engineers aggressively and to have Jack in this talented group is fantastic," said Microsoft's Corporate Vice President and ADC project lead Mike Fortin.
Ngare's exit from Equity Group follows the departure of Managing Director Polycarp Igathe, who is set to rejoin his former employer Vivo Energy at the end of the month.
During his tenure at Equity Group, Ngare oversaw the launch of Finserve Africa and several innovative products, including Equitel, Mkey, and the Jenga Payment Gateway.
These products, which are based on application programming interfaces (APIs), have opened up Equity banking platforms to over 2000 small and medium enterprises.
Ngare holds a master's degree in advanced Computer Science from Harvard University and a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the University of Leicester.
He has previously held stints at British Telecommunications (BT) global services, Stanbic, and NIC banks across East Africa.
