On October 22, 2014, WhatsApp made a significant move to expand its reach to users on desktop computers. The mobile instant messaging service unveiled its web version, initially available for Chrome web browsers and later for extension.
The web client is an extension of WhatsApp on the phone, allowing users to access their messages from their computer. This move is aimed at giving users a bigger screen to share and watch videos and pictures, as well as listen to music.
WhatsApp, a Facebook-owned firm, has been growing rapidly, with over 700 million active users as of recently. The service allows users to send over 30 billion messages every day.
However, due to limitations with the Apple platform, iOS users will not have access to this service at the moment. To use the web version, users need to scan a QR code inside their WhatsApp on mobile, which pairs the browser with the phone and reflects WhatsApp from the phone directly to the desktop.
