On October 22, 2014, WhatsApp made a significant move to expand its reach by introducing a web version of its popular mobile instant messaging service.
The web version, available at https://web.whatsapp.com, is an extension of WhatsApp on the phone and allows users to access their messages from their computer.
Initially, the web client is available for WhatsApp users on Android, Windows Phone, Nokia, and BlackBerry devices, but iOS users will not have access to this service due to limitations with the Apple platform.
During our trial, we were asked to scan a QR code inside our WhatsApp on mobile, which paired the browser with the phone and reflected WhatsApp from the phone directly to the desktop.
With over 700 million active users, WhatsApp has become a dominant force in the messaging world, with users sending over 30 billion messages every day.
The launch of the web version is expected to increase WhatsApp's user base, particularly among those who prefer larger screens for sharing and watching videos, pictures, and listening to music.
