Published on August 6, 2019, the North American box office has seen a new champion in the form of Hobbs & Shaw, the spin-off from the Fast & Furious franchise.
The film, starring Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Jason Statham, has pocketed $60.8 million in its opening weekend, making it the top-grossing film in North America.
Internationally, Hobbs & Shaw has driven off with $120 million, bringing its global haul to $180 million, excluding China, where Fast & Furious films are extremely popular, according to Box Office Mojo.
The Lion King slid to second in its third weekend with $38.2 million.
