Published on August 6, 2019, Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier has revealed that coach Hasan Oktay left the country last Wednesday to attend to family matters in Turkey.
According to Rachier, Oktay was expected to resume duty on Tuesday morning in readiness for the Caf Champions League match against Aigle Noir of Burundi, but he failed to show up.
Rachier confirmed that Oktay had carried his personal stuff, leaving his house empty, and expressed concerns over the coach's future with the club.
"His leave ended on Monday and we expected him to report back to work today. He has not shown up and we are worried. I visited his house and to my surprise, he had carried his stuff," Rachier said.
When asked about the implications of Oktay's actions, Rachier stated, "I don’t understand what that means but we will wait for official communication from him before we can make any pronouncement,"
The club is not taking chances and has already lined up a replacement in case Oktay fails to return, with Rachier stating, "We have to be ready. There are a number of coaches we interviewed in the past and if he doesn’t show up we will replace him, we are ready for anything,"
