Preventing Cancer: Simple Lifestyle Changes

Published on August 6, 2019

According to recent trends, cancer diagnosis is a growing concern in East Africa. While there are survivors, the disease is often declared a national disaster due to late diagnosis and expensive treatment. The cost of treatment has financially crippled many African households with cancer victims.

However, experts agree that a simple change of lifestyle can make a difference in preventing cancer. Here are 10 everyday choices you can make to reduce your chances of getting cancer:

  • Don't use processed tobacco, as it is linked to seven different types of cancer.
  • Eat a healthy diet, including lots of fruits and vegetables, and avoid refined sugars and fats.
  • Avoid processed meat, as it can slightly increase your chances of getting certain types of cancer.
  • Maintain a healthy weight and be physically active to avoid breast, prostate, lung, colon, and kidney cancer.
  • Avoid body-changing cosmetics and body procedures, as they can be hazardous to your health.
  • Limit your alcohol intake, as excess alcohol is linked to breast, colon, lung, kidney, and liver cancer.
  • Practice safe sex, as HIV and HPV can increase your risk of getting cancer.
  • Avoid excessive radiation from electronic devices, as it can increase your risk of cancer.
  • Avoid stress and pressure, as they can weaken your immune system and increase your risk of cancer.
  • Avoid excessive medication, and instead use homemade remedies to strengthen your immune system.

Remember, these tips are not a guaranteed cancer-free guideline, but they can help you reduce your risk of developing the disease. By making simple lifestyle changes, you can stay healthy and avoid the financial burden of cancer treatment.
