TV presenter Larry Madowo, who recently moved to the US to study, faced a backlash on Twitter after commenting on recent mass shootings in the country.
Just a week after arriving in the US, Madowo tweeted about the weekend's mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton, which left 30 people dead and over 50 injured.
"I went to sleep on news of a mass shooting in El Paso. I woke up to news of a mass shooting in Dayton. This is only my first weekend living in these United States!" Madowo tweeted on August 4, 2019.
His tweet, which received over 1,000 retweets, sparked a heated debate, with some users telling him to 'go back home'.
"Hey, you don't like it here you can leave," wrote a user named John Siebert.
However, not everyone was critical of Madowo's comments. Some users defended him, saying that they were trying to 'clean up their house' and welcome newcomers.
"Welcome to the United States. Our house is a little messy at the moment. Most of us have been working hard to clean up the dust and stains, that have littered the place. Most of us welcome you and yours. Thanks for your patience, we are trying our best to clean up this mess," wrote Karen Sargernt.
