Equity Bank Appoints New Managing Director

On August 6, 2019, Equity Bank Kenya announced the appointment of Gerald Warui as its new Managing Director, effective immediately.

Warui takes over from Polycarp Igathe, who resigned from the position and will leave at the end of August. Igathe will join Vivo, his previous employer, as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Africa.

Warui, a career banker with over 30 years of experience, has held various positions within the Equity Group, including Director of Operations and Customer Service in Equity Bank Kenya.

He holds an Executive Master of Business Administration degree from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a graduate of the Advanced Management Program offered by IESE Business School in Barcelona, Spain.

Warui's appointment is subject to approval by the Central Bank of Kenya. He has been with the firm for 21 years and will lead Equity Bank Kenya through its next phase of growth.
