Former Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe has been hospitalized in Singapore since April, receiving medical care for an undisclosed ailment.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa announced on Monday that Mugabe, 95, is responding well to treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.
"Founding president and founding father of our nation (comrade) Robert Mugabe remains detained at a hospital in Singapore where he is receiving medical attention," Mnangagwa said in a statement.
According to Mnangagwa, Mugabe's physicians determined that he needed to be kept under observation for a longer period than usual, which is why he has been in the hospital since April.
Despite Zimbabwe's public health services being in a state of collapse, Mugabe has chosen to seek medical care in Singapore, a country he has visited frequently during his time in power.
President Mnangagwa took over in November 2017, ending Mugabe's 37-year rule, and has vowed to revive Zimbabwe's ailing economy by attracting foreign direct investment.
However, the country is still facing economic woes, including shortages of bread and fuel, as well as power cuts lasting up to 18 hours.
