On Monday evening, a gang attacked and injured 13 people in Bamburi, Mombasa. Three suspected members of the gang have since been arrested, according to Kisauni OCPD Julius Kiragu.
The three suspects, identified as Jackson Okelo, 26, Paul Ayub, 18, and 17-year-old Ibrahim Mohammed Hamdan, were found in possession of mobile phones belonging to the victims.
The suspects are being held at Kadzandani police station. Police are still in pursuit of more suspects who are still at large within the Kisauni vicinity.
The incident occurred at around 8:30 PM on Monday night in Kwa Bulo, Kadzandani Ward in Kisauni Constituency.
Thirteen locals who were injured in the attack were referred to Coast General Hospital after receiving first aid at Yeshua Medicare. Four people were in critical condition.
Following the incident, Mombasa County Commander Evans Achoki reassured residents of heightened security, restoring a state of normalcy after a few hours.
Mombasa County Police Commander Johnstone Ipara deployed a multi-agency taskforce to deal with the incident and warned that those who may have assisted or aided the gang would face consequences as accomplices.
